Pre-treatment Instructions:
Please shave the day prior to the procedure. A day’s growth is helpful so that the area that requires treatment is easily recognizable.
You must avoid waxing, tweezing, threading, or electrolysis of the hair for 4 weeks prior to your treatment. Facial hair grows faster, therefore these treatments should be stopped 2 weeks prior to laser hair removal on the face. The laser needs the hair to be at skin level in order to effectively destroy the hair follicle.
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner for 4 weeks prior to treatment. Treating tanned skin can increase risk of discoloration. Recent sun exposure may result in cancellation of your treatment.
Be sure that the treatment area is fully cleansed and free of makeup, medication, and other topical agents.
Do not use oral medications such as Accutane, Retin-A, Gold Therapy, Alpha-hydroxy acids throughout the course of laser hair removal. Accutane patients need to be off Accutane therapy for 6 months prior to treatment. These medications, and several others, can make your treatments more susceptible to complications.
Procedure: Duration of laser hair removal procedures vary depending on the surface area being treated. Expect to be in treatment anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour. A licensed practitioner will apply a clear gel to the area to help reduce discomfort and ensure the most effective laser treatment.
Aftercare: It is normal for the treated area to be swollen and/or feel like a sunburn for a few hours. You may use a cold compress, aloe-vera gel, or 1% hydrocortisone if needed to help reduce discomfort. Expect to use gentle skincare in the areas being treated throughout your course of laser hair removal treatments.
